Love interest ROFL

Some filler segments in Saiyan Saga showed Lunch interupting Tien & Chiotzu's training. Not overly romantic or touchy, but those 2 had potential had Toriyama was not so hard-pressed against romance

In all honesty though, who gives a rat's a*** about romance? This is Dragonball, people read and watch it for the battles, the transformations and the adventures.

"I am the bone of my sword."

I find him actually kind of boring. At least during his debut as an antagonist, he had a personality and ego that helped him to stand up. But just being the plain good and serious character, he has nothing that really stands out as a character. Tenshinhan is the like bore of the party. Imagine if you had Krillin, Yamcha, Roshi and Yajirobe with you at a party. It would be the most rockin' thing since pecan pie.

And then Tenshinhna comes in, all serious, no joke, nothing at all. And it would be the killer of all party killers.

For a character of perhaps moderate importance as far as the main humans go, he's easily I think the most boring. The main problem probably being that, unlike everyone else, Tenshinhan doesn't really seem to have a schtick. He doesn't have something that stands out as a character. Whether that's having an ego, being a lovable coward, being the butt of all jokes, anything. It doesn't matter whether it is positive or negative, but just something that makes him stand out as a character.

And that's why he was just better as a villain, or at least an antagonist. In fact it was perfect as one. He had the egotistical side, he knew he was strong and if he wanted to snap legs, he'd snap legs. But he also had a bit of honor side to him, cared about his partner so you had a relatively cool anti-villain. But unfortunately he's lost that characterization to just become the every day man.

When you think about it though, not many people in any anime have that trait of extreme normality. Makes him unique in a way.
